Choosing the right bond
The bond is the metal matrix that holds the diamonds in place. Its hardness decides what the blade should cut and how long it lasts.
Hard, dense material wears a bond quickly, so it takes a softer bond. Abrasive material like brick and block needs a harder bond that keeps the diamonds exposed instead of polishing itself smooth.
Silent Core options
Most masonry blades run a steel core, which rings at a high pitch while cutting. A copper core acts as a silencer and lowers the sound level of the blade.
That is why Silent Core blades suit noise-sensitive sites and cuts where vibration shows in the finished face.
Caring for your blade
When a blade is new, make 25 or more cuts through scrap material to open up the diamond matrix before you start the job.
Dressing removes the build-up that glazes the segments and exposes fresh diamonds. Use light, steady pressure with the saw at full speed, and do not force the blade.
